Patient Rights
A. Right to Receive Medical TreatmentPatients have the right to receive appropriate healthcare services to protect their health, and shall not be infringed upon due to gender, age, religion, social status, or economic circumstances, and medical personnel shall not refuse treatment without justifiable cause.
B. Right to Know and Right to Self-DeterminationPatients have the right to receive sufficient explanation from the attending physician, nurse, etc., regarding their disease status, treatment methods, expected outcomes (side effects, etc.), and medical costs, to ask questions in detail, and to decide whether or not to consent to treatment methods.
C. Right to PrivacyPatients have the right to have their physical and health-related secrets protected regarding their treatment, and medical personnel and medical institutions shall not disclose or announce such secrets unless they have obtained the patient's consent or as required by law, such as for criminal investigations.
D. Right to Seek Redress for DamagesIf a patient's rights are infringed, resulting in life, physical, or financial damage, the patient may apply for consultation and redress to the Korea Medical Dispute Mediation and Arbitration Agency (02-6210-0114, www.k-medi.or.kr).
Patient Responsibilities
A. Duty to Trust and Respect Medical PersonnelPatients must accurately inform medical personnel about their health-related information and trust and respect the treatment plans provided by medical personnel.
B. Duty Not to Receive Treatment through Illicit MeansPatients must identify themselves before receiving treatment and shall not receive treatment through false or illicit means, such as receiving treatment under someone else's name.
